Blanket Affirming

What is Blanket Affirming?

Well, it’s not about affirming under your blanket, like the image for this article might suggest. Although, technically, you could do that. But, seriously, in the realm of personal development and manifestation, affirmations have pretty much always been a thing. However, a nuanced approach known as “blanket affirmations,” or sometimes called “umbrella affirmations,” is used by some for its simplicity and profound impact.

Blanket affirming is the practice of using broad, inclusive affirmations that encompass multiple desires or outcomes. Unlike specific affirmations that target particular desires, such as “I now weigh 115 pounds,” blanket affirming covers your life goals in general, including relationships, health, wealth, and personal well-being.

The Technique’s Foundation

This technique is rooted in the belief that general positive statements can influence a wide array of life aspects simultaneously. Take, for example, the affirmation “my life is perfect.” The idea here is that if your subconscious and conscious mind have an idea of what a perfect life is for you, affirming “my life is perfect” would address all of that.

So, in my ideal reality, if I weigh this, look like this, date this guy, drive this car, have a home like this, always feel happy instead of depressed, never experience anxiety, and everyone is nice to me, then affirming ‘my life is perfect’ is creating a reality where all of that is part of my life experience. Of course, this differs for everyone. “My life is perfect” could mean being single for Person A, while for Person B, it’s about having five boyfriends in rotation. You get the idea.

My Journey with Blanket Affirmations

I guess I was technically practicing blanket affirming about 5 or 6 years ago without realizing it when I first started exploring the law of attraction. Abraham Hicks would say in the YouTube videos I listened to, “Things are always working out for you.” When I was emerging from my initial dark place in 2017, I went as far as creating little cards to remind myself that things were always working out for me. Then, naturally, I started saying “things are always working out for me” whenever I was upset or annoyed about something and wanted to change the situation or reassure myself.

I used to keep “Things are always working out for me” cards all over my house, at work, and in my car as little reminders. I initially made these cards for myself, but as I talked about them, I ended up giving many away, leading me to print more. Occasionally, people send me pictures like the one above to let me know they still have them years later, which feels incredibly rewarding. I do feel that once I stopped saying it regularly, maybe deep down I stopped believing it, and consequently, I had a few rough years. However, I’ve corrected that, and my card is back on my fridge!

Examples of Powerful Blanket Affirmations

  • “My life is perfect.”
  • “Things are always working out for me.”
  • “Only good comes to me.”

Benefits of Blanket Affirmations

When you’re feeling unclear or confused about what you want your life to look like, or uncertain about how your manifestations can materialize, using general and positive statements in affirmations can be immensely helpful. This blanket approach allows your subconscious mind and the universe to work out the specifics for you.

It could also make manifesting what you want faster and easier. While specificity has its place, general desires might be easier to manifest. Using blanket affirmations for these general desires can help you release resistance and facilitate quicker movement. Your mind may accept these general desires more readily because you aren’t as disbelieving or caught up in your head trying to figure out the how.

These all-encompassing statements also simplify the manifestation process for some, making it more accessible and less tedious. Some people become really frustrated by having to figure out affirmations, or sometimes a really detailed affirmation makes your mind immediately think, ‘No, you don’t.’

For example, an affirmation like ‘My body feels strong and powerful as I work toward my fitness goals’ could be a lot to come up with. It might make your mind immediately reject it, as well as be difficult to think about repeatedly during the day. However, affirmations like ‘My life is perfect’ and ‘Everything is always working out for me’ are easier to have on repeat and help you to ‘go general,’ as Abraham Hicks says.

The Power of Going General

Sometimes, setting general goals can make manifestation easier, like aiming for overall happiness or fulfillment in life. This approach can be more effective than focusing on specific desires, which sometimes makes you feel kind of impatient or gives you anxiety. General affirmations can be more impactful than specific ones, as they are less likely to be rejected by the conscious mind.

In Dr. Joseph Murphy’s book, “The Power of the Subconscious Mind,” Murphy suggests that thinking straightforward words like “wealth” repeatedly in your head can be more effective than specific “I am wealthy” statements because your conscious mind does not believe. I have honestly always disliked the affirmation “I am wealthy” simply because I am not Jeff Bezos, so it never really felt right.

Murphy says that when you simply affirm “wealth,” you’re not only avoiding any potential subconscious resistance due to disbelief, but you’re also allowing the subconscious mind to fill in the details.

This approach can be more effective than affirming a specific amount of money or a particular way of acquiring wealth, which might not resonate as strongly or might be limited by your current beliefs about how wealth can come to you. If you’re just repeating “wealth,” your mind would have no reason to reject such a general statement.

Ideas on How To Try Out Blanket Affirmations

Integrate Them into Other Techniques: These affirmations can also be integrated into other manifestation techniques. Mirror work, made popular by Louise Hay, involves looking in the mirror and practicing self-love and self-acceptance. So, you can try affirming ‘everything is always working out for me’ during your mirror work.

Additionally, you can engage in activities such as creating a mini vision board on Pinterest, or scripting while doing your blanket affirmation repetition exercises. I have definitely scripted and written out a blanket affirmation over and over when stressed by something in my 3D reality.

And by no means do you have to stop using your other specific affirmations. While blanket affirmations cover a wide range of desires, they can be used alongside your specific affirmations. This balanced approach helps maintain a general focus, making it easier to remain open and detached.

Use it to Stop a Spiral: In moments of stress, confusion, or mental exhaustion, a blanket affirmation covering all aspects of life can effectively bring about positive change. I had a situation recently where I was told no about two things, and I immediately pivoted to “Things are always working out for me.” Sometimes I add an “I said what I said,” to really let the 3D know I mean business.

At times, being overly specific in affirmations can lead to anxiety or mental strain. Blanket affirmations offer relief by allowing the subconscious and the universe to handle the specifics. This approach is particularly helpful when feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or mentally exhausted.

Do it When You’re Zoned Out: The subconscious mind plays an important role in the effectiveness of blanket affirmations. It inherently understands our desires without needing specific details. This understanding aligns with the principle that the subconscious mind is 10,000 times more powerful than the conscious mind, and it shapes our reality. Engaging in blanket affirmations during activities that induce alpha or theta brainwave states, like the state you enter while driving and you have no recollection of how you got to your destination, helps the suggestions permeate your subconscious more effectively.

Use it to Help Yourself Detach: When you detach a little, the belief is that you offer less resistance to the universe and thus align more closely with it. For example, suppose you feel that people are really rude to you in your life. If you want to “step away from it” and detach, you would start affirming, “People treat me with love and respect.” Then, by default, your reality would have to change, and people would ultimately stop cutting you off on the highway and start holding doors open for you.

Say Them How You Would Say Them: This method working for you hinges on personal belief and resonance. It’s crucial to affirm in a way that feels natural and conversational for you. The impact of affirmations largely depends on one’s belief in them. Saying “things are always working out for me” sounds completely natural for me because I have been listening to it for years from Abraham Hicks.

But, if you don’t speak in that way, and you’d say something like “OMGeee, things work out for meee,” then say it like that. Whether you affirm out loud or in your head, do what feels good and use your intuition. Sometimes, I am freaking out, so to calm down, I need to say it out loud, or cry it out loud, as the case may be at the time.

Blanket affirmations offer a simple yet powerful tool in the realm of manifestation. By “going general”, as Abraham Hicks says, we stop limiting the reality we are creating. We open ourselves to a world of possibilities, allowing our subconscious to guide us towards a life that aligns with our deepest desires and aspirations. Maybe things we didn’t even realize we wanted, but that our inner being knew we needed.

This approach is not just about the words we utter; it’s a practice of trust and surrender. This is kind of a reminder that sometimes the most profound changes can come from the simplest actions.

So, as with every technique I post about and will post about, I encourage you to explore blanket affirmations. Whatever makes you feel good and feel happy is all that matters. Remember, the universe is always listening and sometimes, all it takes is a simple affirmation to set the magic in motion.
